Rainware Products

Want to get an eavestrough system that will protect your East Kootenays home?
Here’s how we choose the products that make corrosion-resistant gutters.

Buildings in Creston, Cranbrook, Kimberley, and the surrounding areas of the Central and East Kootenays stand up to occasionally extreme weather. The homes in these communities also tend to be older, with permeable foundations; water must be directed away to prevent flooding. That’s why is it critically important to create effective eavestrough systems by using the correct rainware products.

Below, we explain our approach to choosing materials, sizing, and accessories. We are committed to quality control, procuring materials that will create lasting, corrosion-resistant systems. Plus, you can rest assured that we make decisions based on the specific environmental conditions of your community. For example, in Kimberley, where steep steel roofs gather plenty of snow, we recommend incorporating snow guards.

Eavestrough

Seamless eavestrough, or continuous gutter, are manufactured on site. Eliminating seams reduces places for water and debris to get caught in the gutter and cause leaks. A coil of aluminum or steel is run through a roll-forming machine and cut to exact length. Pieces can be made 50 feet long. Due to the thermal expansion of metals, pieces over 50 feet will be installed with an expansion joint.

Materials

Aluminum

Aluminum does not rust. That makes it is a popular choice for eavestrough and downspouts. Top of the World Eavestrough makes and installs heavy gauge (0.025″) aluminum gutters.

Aluminum eavestrough can be installed with a gutter protectors; also known as debris screens, leaf guards, gutter covers, snow or ice shields.

Steel

While steel does rust, it offers some advantages over aluminum. Steel is less susceptible to thermal expansion, reducing the strain on corners of long (35 feet or longer) gutter. Steel is also less susceptible to impact damage from placing a ladder against it or sliding snow.

Downspouts

Downspouts bring the water from eavestrough to the ground. The larger the downspout, the more water it can carry and the less likely it is to clog with debris. Downpipe comes in multiple profiles, including square, rectangle, and round. Top of the World Eavestrough uses square downspouts due to their efficient, affordable, and, sturdy construction. In my experiences, rectangle downspouts are more prone to clogging, and bursting when frozen, than square or round downpipe. Furthermore, round downspouts need to be made of a thicker material to offer similar strength to the corrugated sides of square or rectangular downpipe.
